Dating from the reign of King Frederick the Miner, whose reign was mostly renowned for being quiet, uneventful in an amusing sort of way, and mostly conducted by his eldest son, this style is designed to flatter the tightly corseted hourglass silhouette of the period and fits closely around the bust before narrowing and flaring out into a short skirt around the hips. The mid-forearm-length sleeves have long turned-back cuffs exposing the ivory silk lining and decorated with silver braid, and more silver braid follows the hem and the pocket flaps.
